Whenever we need to "take five" from our everyday world, we walk just a few steps from Newpark Resort to the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter. A 1,200-acre treasure that's part education center, part wildlife refuge, the facility is part of Utah State University, which means its environmental science programming is grounded in top-tier research. One of our favorite Swaner outings is a guided nature walk on Saturday mornings. The tour departs at 10 am from the LEED-certified EcoCenter and highlights native plant and animal species, the preserve's history and everything you'll ever need to know about wetland science. You can also walk the preserve's 10+ miles of scenic trails on your own, any day of the week. Either way, it's a chance to take a depth breath and nurture your appreciation of Utah's natural beauty.
